OUR MISSION
CityWild is an environmental non-profit organization aimed at inspiring curiosity about the natural world through fun, exploration, and hands-on learning for kids and families, including those from underserved communities. Through our high-quality, science-based, age-appropriate programming we offer the diverse communities of the New England region the opportunity to rethink and strengthen their connection to the nature all around us, especially in the cities we call home. We believe everyone should have the opportunity to engage with nature, including those from underserved and historically marginalized communities.
CityWild partners with like-minded organizations as much as possible to leverage our place and maximize our collective impact. From staff and volunteers to the communities we serve, we work to foster cross-cultural listening and understanding, openness to new experiences, and a recognition of ourselves as members of a larger ecological community that includes plants, animals, insects, rivers, forests, and so on.
We value creativity, getting our hands dirty, nature as our teacher, and, above all, curiosity. From curiosity comes learning, from learning comes respect, and from respect comes stewardship and advocacy.

ABOUT US
CityWild was conceived in 2017 by Founding Director, Dr. Britt Crow-Miller. After years spent as an environmental geography professor teaching university students about sustainability challenges, Britt began to realize that an awareness of and respect for the environment must be fostered much earlier than adulthood if we are to make a broad cultural shift toward more sustainable thinking and actions.
As a parent of three, Britt watched her children approach the plants, animals, and insects around them with an open mind and realized that it was time to take her passion to the little people. How we relate to the world around us as children- from the smallest spider to the most complex ecosystem- scales up and ultimately translates into the values we bring to bear on the world as adults.
Britt's mission with CityWild is to encourage kids and their families to be curious about the nature all around us, especially in our cities where our connections to the non-human world can be easily forgotten.
